Looking back at my blog I realized I started it in March of last year so I never blogged about Alex's birth. Being his birthday I thought it was appropriate.
Our little Alexander Keith Webb was born on Sun. Jan. 20th, 2008 at 6:17pm by c-section. He weighed 7lbs. 12oz. and was 20 inches long. He was born short and chubby and soft and adorable. The c-section was not what we wanted to have happen, but the situation surrounding it were crazy. First off Daddy and I both got pink eye the night before Alex was born and I had bronchitis so I was miserable. I was scheduled to be induced at 10am Mon, Jan. 21st, but about noon on the 20th I started having weird pains/contractions lasting 10 and then stopping for 15 min, so after about 2 hours of that we decided to go to the hospital. Once we got there they told me to go walk around for an hour or so and then come back. When we came back they put me on a monitor and realized that Alex's heart rate (which they didn't want over 165) never got below 200 and was more like a consistent 215. They then realized my heart rate was really high for no reason, so they told me we were staying. As soon as Dr. Cooperman got to the hospital he said those numbers scared him and we needed to do an immediate c-section because he was afraid he was going to loose one of us. I remember looking at the clock above the door as the Dr. walked into the room at exactly 6:00pm and Alex was born at 6:17pm so needless to say it was a whirlwind from there. They tossed Klint some scrubs and told him to hurry and change so he would make it. He then tossed his phone to my Mom (thank heavens she was there) and asked him to just call some one in his family so they knew we were even at the hospital. (We hadn't called anyone except my parents because my dad was at home with Jameson and my mom came to the hospital with us.) As they wheeled me into the OR I told Klint we should just go home and come back at 10 tomorrow, it was probably a fluke thing. They then told me I no longer had that option and that was that. The anesthesiologist said "give me 5 mins" and they were ready. At this point I was being strapped to the table and I began to freak out. Klint gave me blessing and sat right with me, and very quickly Alex was born. The cord had been wrapped tightly around his neck and it was "unusually short", so they think that had been why he went into distress. They quickly showed him to me and then took him away to clear out his lungs and get some oxygen on him. I could see the imprint of the cord around his neck even in that quick look. I didn't know what it was so I asked Klint if he had "a really long neck like a giraffe" and he laughed and told me what it was. Klint followed Alex to the other part of the room and watched as they got his lungs cleaned out and oxygen on him. He said it was really cool because once they put the oxygen on him he just pinked right up starting from his toes and working up. They finished getting me put back together and then it was off to recovery. My parents were both there by then (my dad couldn't wait at home so he took Jameson to Verna's house so he could come to the hospital) and Jennifer came because she knew how badly I didn't want to have a c-section and she could relate. They all got to come in to see us. Alex was using those lungs for sure by then. He screamed and screamed and screamed. I was numb from the neck down so I couldn't hold him for a couple of hours because I had no control over my arms. So he just looked over at me and screamed. I finally got the feeling back and was able to hold and feed Alex and then he was happy as can be. The boy loved to eat from the beginning. We had lots of visitors in the hospital from family and friends. Here are a few pics.

I know he's a year old now, but I still cry when I hear about babies being born. I know you were really sick when you were pregnant, but I had no idea his birth was so exciting too! Happy Birthday Alex!
I can relate to the not wanting a C-section. Mark was my c-section and it wasn't fun at all and I had no choice. The good news is that we all eventually survive it, a little scarred, but given the gift wouldn't have it any other way. You have two cute little bugs!
It's so great to have family around for support:) I'm sorry you had to go through a c/s, I hated mine too. We are lucky to have healthy babies though, so luckily there is a silver lining to these kind of experiences.
Wow! What a story. I never knew that your experience was so bad.
What a scary thing for the doctor to say we could have lost either one of you. Experiences like that change you forever! I am certainly glad you are still around. :0)
Heavenly Father truly blesses us all!!
