The day after Alex's birthday we decided we'd try to do it up right. I made a very poor attempt at a cake and we went over to my parents house to have a mini-party. We opened a few presents and, once again, Alex wasn't so much feeling in the party mood at first. When I put him down to try to get him to open his presents he had a meltdown. It took Jameson opening the first present for him to get him to think it might be okay. He and Jameson got his presents from us and Grammy & Papa open and he loved them. After letting him play with them for a little while we decided to give the cake thing another try. It was a no go. When Klint set him down by the cake he accidentally got his leg in the frosting, then Klint put his hand on the cake to try to get him going. He looked at his hand with some frosting on it and started screaming. Then he tried to wipe the frosting off his hand onto his leg only to realize that the scary stuff was now on his hand AND his leg. He was totally TERRIFIED! It was the look of absolute fear on his face. We were dying laughing. It was the funniest thing to see a kid afraid of his birthday cake. We tried cutting it up and feeding it to him, which he thought was okay, but he still refused to touch it. Of coarse Klint couldn't let it go so he took some frosting and put marks under his eyes like a football player. He was so mad. We finally gave up and washed him up and let him play with his new toys while we ate some of our own cake. It was definitely a memorable birthday party. I hope it doesn't turn in to an irrational fear of cake for Alex.

Alex loved snuggling the Hippo Grammy & Papa gave him (and Jameson hasn't stopped reading the Curious George book that came with it)
Alex's favorite present has been the jungle stacker set from Grammy & Papa. He's great at taking them off and then he can't get them back on so he just sits and grunts waiting for me to put it back together so he can take them off again.

Oh my heck!!!! That frosting under the eyes picture is sooo cute! he looks like a little football player.
That is so funny! We thought Casey would be afraid of cake forever because he grabbed the lit candle on his first birthday! Luckily Derrick blew it out before it really burned him but he was so SCARED! Kids are so funny. Now Casey LOVES cake so I think your safe!
