Alex vs. the Table...The Table Won

Alex is starting to get a little braver lately, and taking a few steps here and there. Yesterday at church we were, as usual, roaming the halls during Sunday School so we didn't disrupt the whole class with his jabbering/fussing. To take a break for a minute, I joined my weekly "hall buddies" (everyone in the ward w/kids that are too old to be quiet, and not old enough for nursery yet) in the foyer. I sat in a chair next to a table and set Alex down. He started to take a couple of steps and then chickened out and lunged for the table. He missed grabbing the table and went head first into the corner of it. I was sure I was going to pick him up to find a huge bleeding gash on his head and we'd be headed for the ER, but luckily this time it was just a HUGE purple goose egg. I've never seen such an immediate bruise. By the time I picked him up it was already swollen and purple. He held his breath for a while, but thankfully didn't pass out. (I blew in his face and threw him in the air a few times.) Poor little guy. I felt so bad. I forget how dangerous this learning to walk can be. Needless to say, we'll be rescheduling his 1 year old birthday pictures for when the bruise is gone. How do they always know when we've got pictures scheduled!?!

Poor little guy. You could always still take the pictures- you'll just have that memory too! :)

Poor guy. Good thing kids are so tough, because little boys seem to bonk their heads an awful lot. (And, yeah, they must have a sixth sense about pictures. Last time we took family pictures Adam bonked his cheek right before we took them, and we were hurrying to take the pictures before the bruise got too noticeable!)
