With so much house to fill I'm always trying to find ways to get things for cheap. One way I've been trying to do that is by redoing or making things myself to get the same type of things I've seen while I'm out and about. I've never been a crafter, but thanks to my parents I do know how to do a little construction work. I've been using what I know to do what we call "industrial craft". That basically means if it's a craft that involves paint, (preferabley spray paint), a nail gun, drill, staple gun, and even a glue gun, or any kind of power tool, I'm in. Here are a couple of my latest industrial crafts. Right after we moved we saw 2 of these unfinished chairs sitting out in some one's bulk trash (don't judge) so I sent Klint out to pick them up for me, and he was great enough to do it for me. They've sat in my garage waiting for me to figure out what I was going to do with them until this week. We're getting ready to dig into our salon room/office and I finally figured out what to do with them thanks to a little Hobby Lobby inspiration. I found some zebra print chairs I was totally in love with, but at $90 a piece they weren't in the budget. With a little work I took that inspiration & turned our "bulk trash chairs" from this.......
to this.......
I have to say I LOVE how they turned out. All it took was a few coats of black spray paint, some 40% off foam and fabric from Hobby Lobby, a piece of plywood, in combination with a glue gun, staple gun and a few screws and for about $25 I've got 2 new chairs to make up a seating area for my salon/office.
This next chair was another lucky find. I was at Big Lots picking up some furniture we actually bought (I don't get everything out of trash piles) when I found this little chair in the parking lot median. It was a little worse for ware, but I knew it could be great with just a little tlc. Because it's not a big chair we thought it would go great in our tiny guest room so with the same spray paint, plywood, screws, nail gun, 40% off foam & $1.30 remnant fabric from my fav store, Hobby Lobby, we went from this........

I love this one too, and I think it's turned out to be a prefect fit in our little guest room.
The boys have been really patient with my project. They've loved helping when they could & playing when they couldn't. Of course taking pics of the final product was one thing they could help with & Alex loves that part. He's such a ham, he can never resist a picture.
One day they took all the spare foam pieces I wasn't using & turned it into a "monter truck birthday cake". They had me come in to my "surprise birthday party". It was so cute.
Here they are doing the big "surprise" They were having so much fun.
They LOVE to play "birthday party" right now complete with making a cake, surprising, singing & blowing out the candles. It's so cute.
