After having a pretty rough week and being totally sick of the heat we decided to take an impromptu camping trip up to Ponderosa to get away. It turned out to be just what we needed. We left after Klint got off work Fri so we didn't get to our camping spot until just before dark. The boys were thrilled to play with sticks, rocks & dirt while Klint & I set up the tent. Once we were settled we had to go on our first walk around the campground. It was getting dark so we gave the boys their glow sticks/"lightsabers" and headed out. Here are the pics of our first walk.
We sat around the campfire for a while then put the kids to bed. Klint & I sat up for a while later until the fire died down then we headed to bed where the attack of the beetles began. We didn't have any issues with bugs, except the beetles. They were swarming the lantern. (This picture doesn't do it justice. There were close to 50 all over the table, lantern, and ground.) When we got into the tent they continued to fly into the walls of the tent as long as we had the flashlight on. We couldn't stop laughing, but luckily the boys slept right through it.
The next morning we had donuts & spent the day enjoying the nice weather & going on lots of "hikes". Here's Klint helping the boys across the "tree bridge of our lives".

Then we crossed "the river of destiny"
And we made it to the top where they were all "king of the mountain".
Our hikes weren't without their mishaps & Jameson ended up with a good scraped knee, which he's still pretty traumatized by.
Once bandaged up Jameson went back to finding "stick guns".
It was so cute to watch the boys play "army guy"
One of Alex's favorite things to do while we were there was find stumps to jump off of. It was so cute. Here he is at the top of the stump.
It was a great trip. We love Ponderosa.

Looks like fun!
What fun for those boys!! Camping is probably the last thing on my mind right now, we have enough bugs and snakes and dirt at our new house to keep me out of the woods :) You sure make it look fun though, I am sure I would not be laughing about bugs!!
OH, Ponderosa! It sure brings back wonderful memories. I'm happy to see your family enjoying it as much as we did with you in the olden days.
