On Nov Wed Nov 14th I was making dinner & trying to get ready to leave for mutual when Ryan suddenly started gagging. I thought he was just choking on drool, but he kept doing it & then he really choked bad & I finally got help pinning him down & prying his mouth open to see if I could figure out what the problem was. Stuck to the roof of his mouth was a piece of mushy cardboard that was about 3 inches long. After I pulled it out he seemed fine so we went about the rest of the night like normal. On Thurs morning I got in the shower & Ryan started crying sometime while I was in the shower but since he was downstairs so I couldn't hear until I came downstairs, and in between breathes he had horrible strider. I got worried & called Klint who said to just watch him so we went about our day. By afternoon he seemed like he wasn't feeling well & still had a little strider so I called the doctor & took him in. The doctor checked him out & said he thought he just had croup but with the absence of coughing & the cardboard incident the night before he felt like he really needed to be checked out so he made a call and had Ryan directly admitted to Cardon Children's Hospital. I dropped the older boys off at my amazing friend/neighbor/lifesaver Kami Wright's & headed to the hospital. As soon as we got there the PA from the surgery group came in & let me know they had scheduled him for a scope of his airways at 7:30. Then the floor Dr came in and said he'd ordered xrays that would be done before the procedure & then they would keep him overnight to monitor him after anesthesia & make sure the strider was getting better. He did great through it all, as much as a 7 month old who doesn't want to hold still can do. They did they scope & found no cardboard, so that was good & we knew it was just croup. He WAS NOT happy when he woke up from the anesthesia & they ended up giving him demoral because he was so inconsolable. Once we got back to our room he did great & the steroids he got during the procedure really helped get the strider under control. He was sounding a ton better by the morning, so we pretty much just waited to go home. Here are a few pictures of our stay.
