I have one of the most amazing friends named Kim Curry. The Curry family was in our last ward & lived just across the street from us (as did about half of the ward). Kim and I worked closely together in Relief Society & she is just so inspiring. She is so creative & is always coming up with fun things to do and fun ways to give service, especially involving kids. A few months ago she asked for some stories about my parents who are serving a 2nd mission in Democratic Republic of the Congo. She wanted to know some of the challenges the African saints are dealing with. I told her about a few amazing people my parents had told us about & then gave her my Mom's blog so she could read a few more stories if she wanted. The next thing I knew she was contacting me trying to figure out how she could make do something for an orphanage my mom had written about. The logistics didn't work out, but that didn't stop Kimmie and the next thing we knew she was starting a group called "Big Hearts, Little Hands" and began planning a big fundraising event for a group called the Peanut Butter Project. She started collecting kids artwork, to which we contributed a bunch of masterpieces, & then at the event there was a raffle, food, and lots of different booths & everything was for a donation. It was such a fun event & even better that I got to see so many friends we haven't seen since we've all moved around. Here are some pictures from the day.
My boys in the "photo booth"
Ryan sporting some flowing blond locks.
Jameson participated in the "Somersault-a-thon". He did 8 somersaults and "got VERY dizzy" but had fun. Thanks to all the family who sponsored him.
The kids got to pick a piece of art to take home. They chose some sculptures.
The boys got balloon animals, had their faces painted, & went "fishing" and had a great time.
The adults all enjoyed getting to see friends we haven't seen in far too long. Here are Cassidy Bills, Kim Curry (planner extraordinaire), Mari Ashby, & me holding a very tired baby Ryan.
It was so much fun for everyone. Thanks again Kimmie! We can't wait for the next Big Hearts, Little Hands event.
