Fall Break - California - Day 4

Thurs we headed over to the newly renovated Mormon Battalion Museum in San Diego. Klint & I had both been there years before, but we had heard it was completely redone and that the kids would love it. The night before we went we tried to explain to the boys a little about what the Mormon Battalion was/did. We also taught them about some of our ancestors that were part of it. We were not disappointed at all. It was completely redone & so kid friendly. The boys loved it and really learned so much about it. They presentation is interactive & it turned out that one of the people who "tells the story" is one of our ancestors, Zamira Palmer. He was one of the people we had told the kids about the night before so they were really excited about that.

Here we are in front of the Mormon Battalion Museum.
At the end of the presentation they have an area where kids can experience some of the things the members of the Mormon Battalion did. The boys LOVED that & could have stayed there playing all day.

making bricks

Ryan was content to just hang out outside in the beautiful weather.
Jameson was slightly obsessed with pumping water.
The boys loved "washing clothes like Phebe" (Phebe Draper Palmer Brown, our ancestor & Zamira's mother, was one of the only women who completely the entire Mormon Battalion March)
They have this really cool computer system where you can find information about everyone who was enlisted in the Mormon Battalion. We could have been there all day looking up ancestors because between Klint & my families we have a lot of ancestors who enlisted. Here are a few that we pulled up and took pictures of.
Ebenezer Brown is Phebe's husband. Phebe is an aunt to me & a grandmother to Klint.
William Follett is from my family
Christopher Layton is from Klint's side
Charles Jameson is from my family

Love so much to share you trip. I'm glad that you made time for the Mormon Battalion visit. We have an amazing ancestry who did hard things to make life for us as wonderful as it is. I'm so glad that you're teaching your boys about these great people.
