Today I got to go with Alex on preschool field trip to the Fire Station. They've been learning about community helpers this month & the last one they learned about was fire fighters. Alex LOVES fire fighters. He currently wants to be a fire fighter when he grows up so this field trip was something he was so excited about. Here's Miss Stacy's preschool crew in front of the fire station.
The guys working/giving us the tour were so great with the kids. They started by showing us the kitchen, bedrooms & gym and explaining that they stay there all day & night. Then they had dispatch do a mock call so the kids could see what happened when they got a call. Then they took us out to see the truck.
They showed us the equipment in all the compartments & some of the tools they use for medical & fire calls. The kids thought it was pretty cool & listened so intently.
Then they opened up the truck & let all the kids climb up in the truck & climb out the other side. Here's Alex climbing in. It was a big climb for such a little boy.
Here's Alex inside the truck. He loved it.
After everyone had gone through they turned on the lights & honked the horn for the kids. It was loud, but everyone thought it was cool.
Just then Alex's favorite thing happened...They got a real call. While we were sad that meant the tour was over, it was neat for the kids to see "them hurry to a real emergency."
Alex was pretty excited to see them all jump in their truck & drive away with lights "really fast"
They were nice enough to let us hang out & look around a little longer after they left so we took a picture with an antique truck.
We were extra lucky because a classmate, Quaid's dad, used to be an actual fire fighter so when the guys had to take off they told him he could keep the tour going so he took us in the room with the gear & taught us about some of their fire gear. All the kids got to touch the jacket.
Here he's showing us the "leader fire fighter's" helmet.
It was so much fun to be able to be with Alex on this adventure. (He's in a phase of not wanting to look at/smile for the camera)
