Today's Parenting Lesson

Alex really was not in the mood for a nap today, but he REALLY needed it so I was persistent. After putting him back into bed for the 3rd time & threatening to put him in the crib he started to cry when I left the room. I went downstairs, as I usually do, to get some things done & ignore the crying and I was so relieved when it only lasted a minute. I assumed he'd finally given up & gone to sleep. This is where the today's lesson came in. About an hour later I headed up stairs to work on something and found this face staring back down at me from the top of the stairs.
Instead of going to sleep, Alex had gone into my bathroom, gotten into my make-up bag & decided mascara would be a fun thing to use to paint all over himself & his "ah-ah" (stuffed monkey). Of course I had just bought a new one yesterday so it had afforded plenty of make-up to last the hour he had been (unintentionally) left unattended. I found myself not even mad. I just couldn't believe it. He had covered almost all of his body that wasn't covered in clothes. Thankfully/Miraculously he hadn't gotten it on his clothes. He was sufficiently disciplined by simply stripping him down & putting him in the shower to scrub it off. Of course after he was cleaned up I wrapped him in his towel & laid on my bed with him to snuggle him & talk about NOT getting into my make-up (which he thoroughly understood by then because I said it over & over again while scrubbing him down). Soon I looked down and........he was fast asleep.

Good thing he's so darn cute or I'm not sure either of us would make it through his terrible twos.

A big fat AMEN to that post!! I know the feeling of a boy too tired that refuses to nap, a boy who messes with Mommy's make up and I know all too well that tricky "quiet" moment that actually means trouble!! He is so cute though :)

Okay I am totally laughing my head off just looking at the pics. What a stinker but I sure do love that kiddo. Sorry about the mascara.
