Our First Christmas "Alone"

This year was our families first Christmas in our own home. We weren't sure if we'd get bored, but it turned out to be one of our best Christmases ever. We started off with a ham & potatoes (and lots of other stuff) dinner. Then we let the boys open a present which was matching jammies & transformer slippers for Jameson & Spiderman or "myaman" slippers. They were so cute. After that we read the Christmas story from the scriptures and as is tradition we put the last missing piece of our manger scene, baby Jesus, into his manger. Then we started singing a few Christmas songs which the boys turned into an impromptu dance party. They were adorable and hilarious. Then we got them settled down and off to bed to wait for Santa. After they went to bed Klint & I followed the next family tradition & watched "National Lampoon's Christmas Vaction". The excited boys in their new jammies & slippers on Christmas Eve.

The next morning Jameson woke up at his normal time (6:30) & crawled into bed with us. I think he'd completely forgotten it was Christmas because after a little bit he stared asking for "a brekies" or Nutrigrain bar. That's when we reminded him that we had to check & see if Santa had come before we went to the kitchen. Then we went and woke Alex and started the Christmas morning festivities.
Jameson got the long awaited "big Bumblebee" he'd asked Santa about & not stopped talking about since, and was totally delighted.
Alex got the "cow" he asked for from Santa in the form of the Fisher Price Farm set & has not stopped enjoying his "Fahhmmm" since. There is no end to the amount of animal noises that child makes, and I love it.
All in all I think the boys were happy with their loot & they really enjoyed playing with their new toys.
After opening presents we got to talk to Grammy & Papa and show them all the wonderful things they got. We missed being with them, but were glad to hear that they had had a good Christmas too even when they were far away from us.
I attempted to make the Jameson family's traditional cinnamon roll. It's supposed to be one big cinnamon roll that covers almost a full cookie sheet. It tasted good, but it didn't look as good as my mom's always does. Thanks to my mom for the tips hopefully I can do it better next time.
Then we spent a very low key, very relaxed, and VERY wonderful Christmas day as a family. It was so wonderful to just all be home together and be able to do nothing but play together & enjoy each other's company.

Here's Alex & Daddy playing with the new balls that Santa brought Alex. Here he is getting ready to throw. (Notice the stance)
This is him catching the ball. Yup, that's the same stance. Such a cutie.
He had a blast!
The boys gave Daddy a classic game, "Rock 'em, Sock 'em" and the three of them had a blast playing it all day.
It's hard to tell if the boys or Daddy had the most fun.
Later that night we went over to my sister Emily's house for some treats and good old fashioned family fun. We ended the night with a few rounds of Rock Band. Everyone had a turn. Alex especially loves the drums or "dums" as he calls them.
Here are a few pics of the Rock Banders. Did I mention that I was voted worst Rock Band player ever? Proud to claim the title so I don't ever have to play again. I much prefer watching and laughing.
There were even a few serious dance moves.
Even the new guy (Jen's fiance Marvin) and the little girl cousins were given their shot.
When everyone was done we finally let the little boys (Trevor & Alex) have their turn at the drums. I think they had the most fun. Look at the concentration on Alex's face. I love how he already sticks his tongue out when he's concentrating. They were just too cute!

Sounds like a fun Christmas! I love all of your traditions! I'm happy for you about your house, but of course, so sad you're moving!

Reading your blog was like experiencing our Christmases past.
It's so fun that you have carried on so many traditions. It sounds just like Christmas when you were growing up, only you are blessed to have some extended family nearby. We didn't so we went to friends houses. It makes us happy to see traditions continue. Thanks for sharing you good day with us.
