One of the many things that needed work when we moved into this house was the back yard, but since there was so much inside work to be done the yard didn't make it anywhere near the top of the to do list. The work on the house has pretty much been at a stand still lately because I got busy & a little burned out on constantly working on it. I figured I'd better get started on the dreaded to do list again & figured we might as well start with the back yard. The boys are loving to play out there these days. They've always lovingly referred to our yard as "the jungle" (came up with that all on their own) and it was a pretty accurate description because it was so overgrown. I think it hasn't been touched for a few years before we bought the house so it was pretty bad. A friend of mine's family owns a tree business called Tree Doctors (they're super awesome if you are looking for some one to trim or remove trees) so we had them come this week to do some serious cleaning out. They took out 2 trees & trimmed the 3rd and only one that wasn't pretty much falling down. The boys were a little sad at first that they were going to take away "the jungle", but once the work began the were so entertained they were thrilled & loved it. They were running from window to window watching as the men worked. It was so cute. After a while we decided to sit down with "smoo-gees" (smoothies) and watched them work. Here are the boys with their "smoogee mustaches" having a great time.
Here they are making the first cuts.

After everything was cleared out we made a few trips to Home Depot & Lowes to buy some new flowers/plants
& of course a pamplamouse tree (grapefruit tree for you non-french speakers).
After a few hours of work we are happy with how it turned out. It's not professional by any means, but it feels great to have done it. We feel like we have a whole new yard. It will be fun to watch it all grow in and mature over the coming years.
Feels good to have back yard makeover-part 1 done. We'll see when/if we get around to part 2 someday.
