MY ROOM

I finally got around to my "salon room". I've been collecting things for this room since we first moved in, but in all honesty thought we may never actually get around to it. Well we are having a houseful for the Thanksgiving weekend so we decided we needed to get it together so some one could stay in there. A couple of weeks ago we had a few family members come over to help us work on the room. It was a VERY big undertaking. Here's what it looked like before (terrible pic, but you get the idea) We had to take out carpet, pad & tack strips, and baseboards (which I'm proud to say I did without breaking any so we could use them again) scrape all the glue off the floor, paint the room then lay new vinyl plank flooring and paint and replace the baseboards and change the light/fan to a chandelier. Thank heavens we got lots of help. Stacy watched our boys all day so we could really get things accomplished without worrying about them getting into things or getting hurt. Marvin brought Michael and my cousin Kevin Bird came and spent some hours helping. We were so grateful for the help and together we got it almost finished (we were short one box of flooring so I had to go order more). The flooring finally came in and this week I finished putting in the floors & Klint & I got the baseboards in. Klint put the furniture together & we got everything in. I LOVE IT!!! I'm so excited! It turned out just the way I imagined. Thanks to all who helped. It's hard to get a good pic of the room because it's kinda long & skinny, but here are some pics.
Here is the sitting area. We decided we might at well make use of the space and put a futon in so we can have it double as a place people can stay when they come to visit. Here's my chair & mirror a.k.a. where all the action will happen. Notice the desk I painted a while ago with the antique typewriter I found for $20. I think it looks perfect. Here's the other side of the room. I LOVE how that hutch turned out. I painted it a while ago too, but I think it looks awesome in here. Where the other black chair is we will eventually put in a sink, but I decided to hire a plumber to be sure it's done right so we're saving for that now. Overall I love how the whole thing came together.
On the note of construction... I drove by the Gilbert Temple site & they were doing some serious work on it today. I'm so excited to be able to see it daily and see all the little steps like this huge mound of dirt which, I'm sure, meant a very big hole behind that fence.
